We barely have enough time for our 9-to-5 and our day-to-day life today. Where and how do we find the time to work on our career future?
• • •
If you’re like most of this podcast listeners, you have a 9-to-5 job that takes up most of your day. Add to that your personal responsibilities and — you know — life in general, and you have a full plate as it is.
Now you’re thinking of making a career move and that requires time to pursue, especially if you’re aiming for a significant pivot — a pivot to a new line of work or say, you want to start a business on the side that you could grow to one day replace your current job.
You’ll need to invest time to pursue these opportunities today, while you have your current job, your current career. This can be challenging to manage, time-wise, when you’re already busy as it is.
I’ve heard people say “when do I have the time to pursue this” or “when I get a bit of free time, I’ll look into this.”
The thing is, wherever we want to see ourselves tomorrow is a direct result of our efforts today. So, we have to somehow find, or rather, make the time today to work on our future career — whether that means going back to school, retraining or re-skilling ourselves, exploring new opportunities, setting the side-job, etc.
I invited productivity and clutter coach, Claire Tompkins to talk about time management because this is one of the challenges for people who are looking to make a career pivot or a career change.
In this episode, Claire shares insights and suggestions around what we can do to create this space to work on our dreams or goals.
